appleTV4Apple CEO Tim Cook announced at the WSJD Conference on October 20th that the fourth generation Apple TV will be released the last week of October. CNN Money says Apple TV will ship on October 26. Apple announced that the fourth generation Apple TV will come in two models, 32 Gigabytes ($149) and 64 Gigabytes ($199).  The original Apple TV now costs $69 and is still available.

So what's new with Apple TV fourth generation. Apple has a flashy page that explains it all.  The big change is that this new device operates with the Apple Duo Core A8, a 64-bit ARM based system chip (SoC) containing 2 billion transistors packaged with 2 GB of LPDDR3 RAM. This is significant since, as Cook puts it, the 'future of television is apps', so having a fast processor is essential to watch this new future tv experience not to mention using games. You can use  use multiple iOS devices or MFi game controllers for games. A special $13 wrist loop can be added to use the Siri remote as a game controller and extra remotes cost $79 but according to iMore you can't pair more than one remote. with the new Apple TV. So multiple players will have to rely on third party controllers that work with Apple TV or use multiple iOS devices such as iPhones or iPads with the new game apps designed to work with tvOS.

It has Dolby Digital 7.1. and runs on what Apple calls tvOS which is similar to iOS 9 so developers have made apps for HBO, Showtime, Netflix, Hulu, and sports subscriptions from the MLB, NBA, and NHL. The new Apple TV allows third party controllers for game apps. Since Apple encourages developers to make apps for this device there will be possibly millions of apps with your iOS device that may run on your HDTV as soon as these are made for tvOS. For ports the device has USB-C (service only), HDMI 1.42, 10/100BASE-T Ethernet and a IR receiver. And all your Apple mobile devices can use Apple TV to show all your photos or videos on your big screen.

The new  remote uses dual microphones for Siri and a Glass Touch surface so you can easily search for a show or app. The remote includes an Accelerometer and gyroscope and includes Bluetooth 4.0 to communicate with Apple TV as well as an IR Transmitter and a Lightning connector for charging.
