gmail300x300If you have only one Gmail account you may have run into some issues if you are trying to separate your personal life with your business. Have you considered setting up multiple Gmail accounts? For example you may want to have a personal Gmail account to send emails to friends, search for things you’re interested in, and manage your personal schedule. Your business Gmail account (using Google Apps for Work) you may want to send emails to coworkers, do business related searches, and schedule business meetings with coworkers and clients. Or you are into sports and want to send emails to teammates, search for sports equipment, and keep a calendar of your team practice and game schedule. There really could be numerous reasons why you need multiple Gmail accounts.

There is an article published in Mashable worth noting about the pros and cons of separating social media accounts from your personal life and business. This article discusses what happened to an employee of a company that "provides a clear reason to avoid meshing your professional and personal worlds via social media." [1]  Another article published by lifehacker gives some similar advice. [2] The principles in these articles may apply to having separate Gmail accounts just to be safe.

So how can you simply manage multiple Gmail accounts?

There are several different ways to do this. One of the easiest solution is to have multiple browsers, i.e., Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, and log into a different Gmail account in each browser. Simply switching browsers gives you access to multiple Gmail accounts.

Gmail allows you to add multiple accounts in the same browser by clicking on your email address in the top right corner (after logging in) and clicking on the ADD ACCOUNT button at the bottom of the pop up window that is next to the SIGN OUT button. You can then switch back and forth between accounts. [3]

There are two other ways to do this mentioned in an article published by makeuseof, by setting up different users in Google Chrome, or adding email accounts & aliases to your main Gmail account. [4] And if you have a Chromebook you can set up different user accounts which can manage different Gmail accounts.
